Review
A flight review is a required, periodic assessment of a pilot’s skills and knowledge conducted by a flight instructor. It’s not a checkride, but rather a training event focused on updating and maintaining proficiency.
The review typically includes ground instruction and flight time, aiming to ensure pilots are confident and proficient in safe aircraft operation.
A flight review consists of a minimum of 1 hour of flight training and 1 hour of ground training. After a succesfull flight review, a pilot can resume exercising their priviledges in a competent, safe and legal manner.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Purpose: To assess a pilot's current knowledge and skills in aviation.
Format: Includes both ground instruction (discussing regulations, procedures, and weather) and practical flight maneuvers.
Frequency: Required at least every 24 calendar months.
Outcome: While not a test, the flight review can lead to a personalized plan for continued training and improvement, according to the FAA Safety website.
Not a Checkride: A flight review is a training experience, not a certification test
